The rest of February

End of February already? yikes. We continue to have play dates. Started socializing more with our friends. Leo is starting to 'talk back' at me when I tell him 'no'. No, Leo you can't play with that it's dangerous. He looks at me and growls!!! Great. I can only imagine what he's going to be like as a toddler. When he can actually talk. Lots of pointing going on, too. What's that? I imagine him thinking.

We celebrated Dave's birthday this month. He was mesmerized by the candle. and then the smoke nearly blew his mind when Dave blew out the candle.

ooooh candle!

Chilling with Hamish. Thanks for the photo Kristina!
Leo loves Emma. He squeals every time she walks by. Unfortunately, I think Emma just tolerates him only because she gets to clean up after him after meals. She's getting old and grumpy. 11 already! and her hips hurt. So we're trying to teach Leo to give Emma her space. It would be awful if she started getting aggressive with him. We'd like her to live out her retirement in as much peace as possible!
Leo's favorite thing to do to Emma now. Pull himself up to standing on her.
He grabs his ear when we ask him in Chinese, 'Where is your ear?'. Still working on finding his nose consistently.

First Valentine!

Taking a ride on Egan's rocking horse
I taught him how to raise both his hands up in the air in response to YAY!!!
Yay for moose!
Sunlight is coming back, the temps were in the 20s this week. We've been skiing a couple times this week already. I'm so excited to start getting outside again after being cooped up for most of the month. YAY for spring!!

A few videos

Just some videos from the past couple weeks.

9 months/Coming out of the fog

9 months!

Leo is a real joy to be around. We're blessed to have such a wonderful soul for a son. He says Mama, Dada, Emma (comes out as Meh) and likes to babble a lot. He's starting to point at objects. He can wave bye bye, he clapped his hands the other night. And he's sleeping better. Which means we're sleeping better for the most part. I still find myself waking in the middle of the night out of habit.

I also feel like I'm coming out of the fog. Partly because I am getting more sleep and partly because I started working on my dissertation again this week. 4 hours in the morning, 7-11A in my office on campus. Dave watches Leo in the morning and then goes to work when I get home. The good thing about this schedule is that we are able to delay putting Leo into daycare. The bad thing is that Dave doesn't get home until close to 8 and we don't get much time together because I'm ready to go to bed soon after he gets home.

As soon as I got to my office on Monday, I started to feel my sanity coming back. I find that I have more patience and I'm much happier if I have time to myself every day. It is amazing how much I can get done in 4 hours when I know that is the only time I have to work.

It's taken me a long time to adjust to motherhood. I don't think it takes most people 9 months. I've gotten better at going with the flow. When I get frustrated by something, I take a deep breath and say to myself, 'Just go with the flow'.

He's down to 2 naps a day. He'll take a short 30 min nap in the morning in his crib. He was taking a 1-2 hr nap in his crib in the afternoon but he prefers to nap and nurse on my lap. And I'm letting him right now. I can take a nap, too (broke out my travel pillow) or catch up on emails, surf the web, read pdfs on my iPad. He's getting so big so quickly, it won't be long before he won't be able to nap comfortably on my lap every day! He's still in the 98th percentile for height. We still don't know where he gets that from.

Leo's now very interested in other babies, we're getting out and socializing. It's nice for us to get out of the house and also have people over here.

More peas please?

Goofing off
I got a large modular play pen last week and I don't know why I didn't get one sooner. It corrals off a space large enough that I can practice yoga in it while he plays around me, crawls on me, etc. and not have to worry about him getting into anything. It is so nice to be able to get a little exercise.

Not sure if he likes the invasion of his personal space
