Fast Forward into Winter

It's been a fabulous extended Fall in Fairbanks. So nice that we headed into the White Mountains, a couple hours north of Fairbanks for some hiking and ptarmigan hunting this weekend. To our surprise (shouldn't have been so surprised), we came upon Winter.Neither one of us brought gators. Which is always fun when post-holing.

Lynx tracks next to the creek. Emma J waiting patiently for us to figure out to get across the creek.
How lucky! just happened to be a piece of plywood laying around!
No ptarmigan. Only solitude, sun, and snow.

We were treated to a gorgeous sunset

And a greeting from the moon

This morning, we woke to a light dusting of snow in Fairbanks. And I think it's going stick. I'm looking forward to skiing, sledding, ice sculptures, bonfires, cabin trips, and cozying up next to the heater with a good book. And also for life to slow down a little bit! Bring it on Winter! We're ready for you!

Ester 5K Footrace and Poetry Contest

I took a break from unpacking and participated in this fun 5K with Brook and the ladies. It's a benefit run for the public library in Ester. There's also a magnetic poetry contest between laps. And of course, there's a costume contest. We dressed up as a bridal party with a runaway bride.

Brook as a brunette

I borrowed Brook's blue wig and eyelashes - Muppet Shiway!

Katie & our runaway bride Andrea.
complete with mullet. so scary.

our day started with a bike ride to Ester from Brook's house

I was wondering how we were going to bike with dresses on.
turns out it's much harder to take photos while biking in a dress

Amy & Dave, honorary bridesmaid

I love Brook. I can count on her for many things, including brightening my spirits. and my hair.

Lisa, aka Marge

I'm pretty sure brides don't normally hike their dresses up that high

and we're off!

I'm not very good:

Dave goes hunting

Some images from Dave & Josh's hunts. September = goat and bear hunt. Dave didn't get a goat but Josh did get a black bear. They flew to an undisclosed location across Kachemak Bay in Homer.

In August, they went on a caribou hunt up North with Anna. and Mathias. Everyone had a successful harvest! I'm sad I missed out on the hunting this year.
