Juneau Lake Cabin

We headed out to Juneau Lake Cabin for the weekend. 8 miles. We lucked out on the weather - sunny and gorgeous. Nice to finally get some sunshine after all the wet weather we've been getting down in Seward.
The crew: Ben, Beate, Mandy, Me, Dave and Emma K (Mandy's dog), and Emma J. Stinklepantsyup. there's some snow already down there. B1 & B2 checking out the bear prints frozen in the snow.
here they are. pretty small bear judging from the size of the prints. we saw some gigantic prints frozen in the mud, probably belonged to a gigantic grizzly.
look how cute B & B are in their matching pants and bed rolls! :)

Emma J trying to get her stick that her mean mommy threw on the ice for her. She's too smart for that!
finally. after 4 hours, Juneau Lake!

We stayed at this cabin with Josh & Anna last March. Since then, the cabin has been remodeled. It's got new bunks, bamboo flooring, new benches, table, counter top for cooking and a brand new deck.
When we got there, the temps were warmer outside the cabin than inside!
Emma J has no shame.
Dave & Mandy went for a spin in the canoe. I stayed in and caught up on my Harry Potter 5.
Later, we ventured out for a walk and Dave got some spruce grouse which we had for dinner that night!

It was a cold Fall morning when we hiked out. There was frost everywhere and it was sparkling in the sun. Can't seem to capture it on the small, digital camera.
I picked some cranberries on the way back.
Emma K & Emma J - muddy and tired!! So were we! what a great weekend. we were sad for it to end.

Making Sausage

Fall is here. The weather has been mostly nasty in Seward: wet and dreary - non-stop rain coming down. This weekend we did mostly indoor activities. One of them was making sausage from the rest of last year's moose.
Why is Dave wearing ear protection? To keep the meat from getting in his ears. Just kidding. The kitchen aid is super loud when grinding meat.oooh. looks gross but tastes so good. This batch is Hot Italian sausage. hopefully next weekend will be a little less damp - we're going on a cabin trip!

Mt. Alice

Fall was still in session in Seward this week. We hiked up the Mt. Alice trail one last time before the snow starts flying. Neither one of us had made it up to the tundra all summer.Absolutely gorgeous. The blueberry was glowing.
