Stocking up for winter

About a million things to do before the snow starts flying... two of those things are gathering firewood and berry picking. We managed to do some of both this weekend. While Dave was off cutting wood with his chain saw, Emma and I picked some high-bush cranberries in between hauling wood to the truck. I love Fall. Too bad it doesn't last very long up here.
High-bush cranberries stink like sweaty feet when you cook them. And they have gigantic seeds. So, they have to be boiled down with some water and strained before making them into anything. I tried my hand at straight jelly, apple butter and spiced cranberry sauce this evening. If anyone has any good recommendations for sugar substitutes, let me know! I hardly ever make jelly/jam etc. because of all the sugar that goes in it!
