Welcome to the World

Max and Noah decided they had enough on the inside and it was time to be on the outside. On Tuesday at our regular check up, much to our surprise (and my doctor's), I was 3 cm dilated already. No contractions. Given my history with Leo (my cervix never dilated on its own and he was 2 weeks late), we thought these babies would also take their time to show up. How wrong could we be! I woke up Friday morning around 5 when one of the waters broke. Then the contractions started at 630. We made it to the hospital at about 8. And I was already completely dilated! No time for an epidural even though I really wanted one! I got my VBAC that I was hoping for. The boys came out pretty quickly. After 4 good contractions, Max came out at 0849 and Noah joined him at 0900.

Unfortunately, Dave missed the whole thing. We hadn't really planned ahead on what to do with Leo since neither Ama or Nana are here yet to help. Poor Leo was pretty upset seeing me in labor at home. He knew something was wrong but not sure what. He stayed really close to me the entire time, even got down on his hands and knees with me while he was crying! I had the babies while Dave was taking him to Julie, Lincoln, and Espen's (thanks so much guys!). And we didn't get any photos of the birth since it all happened so quickly. Luckily, my doctor had just finished up his rounds at the hospital and was on his way home when they called him to tell him to turnaround and come back!

They are on the larger size for being just about 35 weeks. Noah weighed in at 5 lbs, Max at 5.5 lbs. Didn't need oxygen at all, doing well on their own. But they still need to stay at the hospital until they can feed on their own, start gaining weight, maintain temperature etc. Which means that I am also here until they leave so I can nurse them very 2-3 hours. That is probably the hardest thing so far. I miss Leo and I miss being at home. But my priority is to help Max and Noah get into tip top shape so we can go home. Hopefully I can spend some time with Leo soon.

We are so thankful for our friends here. So many have offered to help with taking care of Leo and Emma, and whatever else we need. And we've been taking them up on it for sure! Leo's been spending some quality time with the Parretts and Gall-Rizzolos so far. And Emma is hanging out with Mandy and Libby.

Can't wait for Leo to meet his little brothers!!

Thanks to Julie, Lincoln, Adrian and Dan for the pictures of Leo having fun with his buddies! I can't even tell you how thankful we are for all our friends here. It really is like having family here.
