This is my first week on 'intermittent status' at work which means that I'm still in the USGS system and well, working intermittently. I'm no longer on the Fish Team. And no longer driving up to Anchorage every week, which is nice. This summer I'll be working on the Kittlitz's murrelet project out of Seward with Yumi. We have 5 surveys this summer, ranging from 3 - 14 days each. I'm excited to get back on a boat and the field. And to work with Yumi again! Bird surveys and beach seines are part of our to-do list.
We've got a fun-filled, super-booked summer!
May - it's 1/2 over already!!! I'm going to Anchorage tomorrow to pick up Keira & Brian. They are coming up from Boulder to climb Denali! Ann Harding is coming down for a visit this weekend, hopefully we'll get a long hike in at Lost Lake or Caine's Head. Dave's participating in a beach clean-up on Saturday. Heather & Paul's wedding is next weekend. And then I leave for my first murrelet survey.
June - more surveys at the beginning and end of the month. Then Rebecca's coming for a short visit from Fairbanks. Mike, Alisa & Eli will be showing up around the same time. And Keira & Brian should also be re-surfacing around the same time from Denali and will hopefully have time to come down for a visit.
July - more surveys at the beginning and end of the month. We're going to get married somewhere inbetween the surveys. The Wangs are coming down before the wedding, along with Brook and the Arnows. The Safines, Hoffmeisters & Eisenbergs are visiting after the wedding.
August - one more survey mid-month. We're scheduled to hike the entire Resurrection Pass Trail. Nick is supposed to come down and visit. Are we going to get our fishing in????
And then it's September! EEEEK! Time for blueberry picking and moose hunting.
So, you might be wondering what I'm doing during my 'time-off'. I've been spackling and painting the bathroom downstairs. Trying to maintain my regimented workout schedule that I had while working in Anchorage. I have 4 papers from my master's thesis that I need to get published. Paper 1 is well on it's way - minor revisions from J Comparative Physiology B. I also have plants that I am going to try to keep alive. Mainly herbs, salads and few pretty flowery things that Michelle picked out for me. Unfortunately, I don't have my dad's green thumb so these unlucky plants may be doomed. There's still wedding stuff that needs to be done, unfortunately. And lots and lots of house stuff. Speaking of, I should probably get back to painting...
