Happy 60th Dad!

Dad turned the big 6-0 this week. Kristina & I tried to surprise him by showing up at the house but he already knew that we were coming. I suspect the leak came from the fact that my parents share an email account...something that I always forget. oooops. But we managed to surprise him anyways. We went to dinner at the Orchid Pavilion (those of you in the Boulder area should eat there if you haven't had a chance to do so yet - authentic Taiwanese/Chinese food) and our good family friends surprised my dad.
He's been wanting this T-shirt for a very long time. It was designed by our friend Jason Lee who co-founded a t-shirt brand: inogu fabrics. Jason's still in undergrad. I didn't realize how creative he is!
Some brief history: around 1590, the first Western ship passed by the island, and Jan Huygen van Linschoten, a Dutch navigator on a Portugese ship, exclaimed "Ilha Formosa" (meaning "Beautiful island"), which became its name for the next four centuries.

Jason wrote this moving soliloquy which is on the back of the t-shirt.1st course, soup.
more food...
and more food... this is a hog roast dish. along with the meat, came the fat and skin. no hair, thankfully. this was one of my favorite things to eat as a child.
'long-life' noodles. you're not supposed to cut them, if you do, you'll shorten your life.
all in all there were at least 15 different dishes. Yikes.
Kristina, looking oh-so-mod! :) nice dress!

the four of us descended to the basement to play some mah-jong. Here's Kristina teaching Erica the number characters.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! Hope it was a good one! Here's to another 60 years! :)
