Shaye & Doug visit

My friend Shaye and her husband were up for a visit from CA earlier this week. Shaye & I worked out on the Farallon Islands (off the coast of San Francisco) in 1998. It was my first field job and everything was so new and exciting for me. It was great to meet Doug and actually get some quality time in with Shaye. We often see each other at the seabird group meeting but never get a chance to catch up properly.

We did an extensive behind the scenes tour at the sealife center. Tuula gave them a wonderful eider tour.
We went out to the outdoor lab and had a closer look at them
and then Nikki gave us a super tour behind all the exhibits. This moray eel popped it's head out of the tank several times - checking us out? hungry? not sure.
and then Christy & Lisa gave us a chance to get up close & personal with one of the female Steller's sea lions. they had us watch them perform a routine health check. I have a great video of Lisa checking out Kiska's teeth that I will post soon.
that was then!
this is now!
and here's a fun photo of Shaye with a rhinoceros auklet.
