Devil's Pass Cabin

To celebrate our 1st anniversary, we hiked up to Devil's Pass Cabin and spent the weekend up there. We took the Summit Creek Trail on the way in, about 10 miles. It was hot and sunny most of the day.
alder growing over the trail to an old mine
Emma, the mountain goat, waiting for us at the top wanting to know why we're taking so long

yup, there's still snow up there
looking down at the valley south of Resurrection Pass
the cabin is just 'right around the corner'
there it is! cabin complete with outhouse

Next day, we went for a day hike up this valley off of the Devil's Creek Trail.

Dave wanted to make it to these lakes near the headwaters of the creek

weather was crap for most of the day.
we went off trail and bush-whacked it and on the way back we bush-whacked it in a torrential downpour. it was another one of those fun bonding experiences. even Emma was miserable.

but it dried up the next day!
happy anniversary!
Devil's Pass Lake
We headed out on the Devil's Creek Trail, another 10 miles out
who's a happy dog!!!

wildflowers were still blooming
marmot tracks on the bottom
finally saw a black bear across the valley, from a safe distance
yes, that tiny black dot in the middle of the photo
and I experimented with 'digiscoping', took some photos through the binoculars

also took some time to pick salmon berries

Emma doesn't like to cross bridges
I wore ziplocs on my feet the last day as my boots were still soaked through from the previous day. It worked extremely well, kept my feet dry all day. I should have bought some stock in ziplocs. So nice to get out and get some air and spend some time together!
