We spent 2 days in Homer. Everyone else hopped on the Danny J and went across Kachemak Bay to Halibut Cove.

On the way over, they stopped off at Gull Island and had a good look at the seabird colony.

Lunch at the Saltry

Dave took this picture for me. The small cabin near the beach is where I spent my first summer in Alaska. We skiffed out to Gull Island everyday where we did our field work. These photos brought back a lot of good memories. This is where I met Yumi! She was working at the other USGS camp in Kasitsna Bay. I feel very fortunate to have spent a summer+ out there.

after lunch, they tooled around the cove

while these guys were out there, I went for a run along the Spit.
7 miles and it was fantastic!

after dinner, we went for a walk along the beach
sandhill cranes flew overhead

Yes, Tessa's in the water. But don't worry, Steve & Alysa! the stream was warm - water flowing from a lake

the fireweed is taller than Tessa!

We stayed in this cute 2 bedroom cottage that had a view of Bishop's beach - only 5 min walk to the beach and just down the street from Two Sisters bakery where we had breakfast. Highly recommend this place to stay:

Our last morning we stopped into the Islands & Oceans Visitor Center. It's a small place but the exhibits are incredible.
